Review:Pelican’s SnoBalls

When I travel, I seek out to find new versions of foods, treats and drinks I already know that I enjoy. It is a great way to stick to a concept you know you love but still you get to explore something new. While searching for Shaved Ice in SW Florida, I came across Pelican’s SnoBalls. It seemed to have a fun ambiance and varied menu. With a 4.7 star rating on Google Maps I felt like I had to visit, and I am very glad I did.

What is Pelican’s SnoBalls?

To me, this is a colourful place where you can try out many sorts of Shaved Ice desserts. Unless you’re new here, you know that Dessert Cafe’s are one of my favorite things in the world. If you ask Pelican’s Snoball’s to share a little about themselves, you’ll learn that they originated from New Orleans over 20 years ago, offer over 100 flavours of ice cream and have several franchise locations across America.

The venue

As you know by now, Pelican’s SnoBalls have plenty of different venues. Usually located alongside roads, they offer a nice break when driving and are a nice pop of color in an otherwise grey roadside environment. I visited their location in Fort Myers Beach, which is conveniently located right on the way to the Beach and Sanibel Islands. If you’re in the mood for shopping, it is also a great pit stop before hitting up Sanibel Outlets.

Don’t be intimidated by the menu, I know it’s a lot to consider. Fortunately, the staff is there to help. They were very friendly and did not rush us on our visit. They are more than happy to answer any questions, and help you make great choices.

The SnoBall

As you can see, it was a tough decision to choose my treat of the day. In the end, I went for something simple. I chose a regular sized snowball with two flavors: Pineapple and watermelon. I imagined that these two would taste great as shaved Ice, and they really did. The shaved ice had a watery, but smooth consistency and felt a bit like eating very soft snow. I got to sample a few flavours that were milkier, such as the coffee taste, and they felt a bit thicker, but were great as well.

Final Thoughts

Although the patio views of the road might be a bit dull, I really liked this place. They offered a large selection that you won’t find elsewhere, the staff was great and I had an overall positive experience. There aren’t a lot of places like this in SW Florida, and I found the concept unique to the location. I would definitely like to come back and try out a few more of their flavours and combinations.
