To me, nothing really beats a beautiful sunset. I love to admire the sky as it turns into dramatic shades of orange, yellow and pink. I love seeing how it contrasts with the face of the earth, regardless of whether it’s the ocean or the glistening lights of a big city. Today, I’m sharing the best sunsets I’ve seen around the world.
Some of these places below are well-known for their beautiful sunsets, while others are less known for it. Some of these places hold great memories of sentimental value to me, while others have made it to the list simply by being beautiful. Below, you’ll find my personal favorite sunsets, which I hope will inspire you to chase more of these natural wonders in the future.
Consequently listed in articles such as ”10 views to see before you die” or ”Top sunsets around the world,” this is probably the most famous sunset view that I’ll share. Hong Kong is the most skyscraper-packed city in the world, centered around a lake, and surrounded by mountains. It is the perfect setting for beautiful sunsets. The city also offers year-round warm weather, which makes for great hikes in the mountains, and plenty of chances to catch jaw-dropping views.
This view is at its absolute best during sunset. Before I went to Hong Kong, seeing this view was at the top of my bucket list for years. While the city itself didn’t turn out to be as I expected in other aspects, the view from Victoria Peak exceeded every possible expectation. Regardless of when you go during the day, this is the kind of view that will leave you speechless. Once you’ve seen this, it will be hard to find a view that is equally fascinating.
If you want to read about my top ten reasons to visit Hong Kong, you’ll find that post HERE.
The beaches on the Gulf Coast of Florida are perfect if you want to enjoy beautiful sunsets. This is especially true during the winter months. Rain and thunderstorms are frequent in Florida during summer, which makes winter and shoulder season is the perfect time for a vacation.
Vanderbilt Beach isn’t particularly famous for its sunset, but it is conveniently located in front of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel. If you’re in the area, I’d highly recommend visiting one of the bars for a drink, followed by a walk on the beach during sunset.
I wouldn’t necessarily disclose Patong Beach as my dream location for watching the sunset. I would, however state that the sunset view from our villa in the mountains at The Senses Resort and Pool Villas is something I dream about to this day. Watching the sunset from your own infinity pool after a day of adventures is truly something special.
To get this view, you’ll need to book one of the private pool villas at The Senses, which makes it the only view on this list that isn’t free to access. However, the view and comfort of having your private pool is worth it, and I’d definitely book it again.
Visiting Los Angeles was at the very top of my bucket list for years as I was crazy about The OC in my early teens. The show is part of what made me dream about visiting Los Angeles in the first place. In 2012, I visited L.A. with my family for the first time. I can still remember my excitement when boarding the Airbus A380 for the 11 hour flight. Since 2012, I’ve been lucky enough to visit a few more times. Even if L.A. sometimes gets a bad reputation for being superficial and a place where you’ll spend most of the time stuck in traffic, it remains my favourite city to this day. The sunset views are just as amazing from the mountains as they are from the beach, but I personally prefer city views over ocean views.
Los Angeles is so much more than the home of Hollywood. You’ll find stunning views and beautiful scenery in sprawling environment that represents several distinct cultures. The food is amazing and you’ll have the desert and snow-covered mountains only two hours from the city center. I shiver every time I see the view of L.A. from Griffith Observatory in a movie or TV show. I’d probably move in a heartbeat if it was easy.
This is the city that made me fall in love with sunsets. Living in a coastal suburb and spending the evenings by the water with friends made me develop a habit of cherishing sunsets. Ever since moving to an East coast in 2012, I’ve missed these simple moments.
You can see one of Malmö’s most famous landmarks – the bridge to Copenhagen in Denmark to the very left of the photo. The picture is taken from an area named Sibbarp, a few kilometres south from the city center.
I’ve already listed more sunsets than I planned to now, but it would be unfair to skip this stunning sunset view given by an inland metropolis that has grown to become my second home. Just like Los Angeles, Toronto holds a special place in my heart. I lived there for four months during the fall of 2016. While there, I learned that this city – mostly famous for cold weather and hockey, has a lot more to offer.
Toronto is the 3rd largest city in North America. The architecture is a beautiful mix of old and new, and the city is surrounded by beautiful nature and impressive wildlife. The food is incredible, especially when it comes to Eastern Asian food and desserts due to a large influx of immigration. Canada is the perfect cultural mix between Europe and America and the people are very welcoming as well. If you want to visit a city that feels like New York, but smaller, cleaner and safer, Toronto is a great choice. It is easy to feel at home here and I understand perfectly why Drake is so proud of his hometown.
