Instagram is where I find much of my inspiration in food, fashion and where I want to travel. I visited the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to thanks to seeing it on Instagram (Lake Como in Italy) and I see so many beautiful places in my feed every day. Below, you’ll find the highlights (and the fantastic accounts behind them) from 2018 that are now added to one of my many bucket lists.
Japan has been on my bucket list for years, but Kyoto is definitely a new beauty to discover when I actually go to Japan. My dream would be to travel by train from the northern to the southern part of the country. I also have a friend in Tokyo (another Japanese dream destination) who I’d love to visit as well.
Spending four months in Canada made me realize how much it has to offer. Especially as it’s often overlooked in favour of their southern neighbour. I lived in Toronto, and didn’t get to visit the western part of the country. I would love to roadtrip through western Canada and see the turquoise lakes and visit Vancouver and Whistler (famous ski resort town in Canada) but I’d probably be more interested in the spa than ski.
The United States is probably one of the countries that I’ve visited most in my life, and it is probably my favourite country for vacations. There are always new places to discover and the US has so much to offer. In 2018, I Insta-discovered the beauty of Lake Tahoe, located at the border between California and Nevada. California is such a beautiful place, and I have wanted to see the central/northern part of it for years.
People can be surprised when I tell them that I’ve never been to Greece. As one of the most popular summer destinations for Swedes, it seems uncommon to not have visited Greece. Frankly, I haven’t been very interested in Greece before I saw a lot of it on Instagram. We never took any family trips there and my parents have always been more eager to visit other places. After seeing how beautiful it is on Instagram, I’d love to visit both famous places such as Santorini or Mykonos, as well as more hidden gems like Nafplio above.
Similar to Greece, Italy has previously felt like a destination where everyone has been, apart from myself. My first trip to Italy was in 2016, which was a weekend trip to Milan where we did a day trip to Lake Como. I fell in love with it. My family and I returned in September last year for a full week in the Lake Como region, and it was stunning.
Italy is recognized as one of the most beautiful places in the world, a rich cultural heritage and fantastic food. I’ve seen so little of it in real life, and so much of it on Instagram. I just wanna go for a roadtrip and see all of it, but especially the places above.
Which destinations made it to your bucket lis in 2018? I would love to know in the comments!
Hi and welcome to my travel guide! My name is Beatrice. I’m a lawyer in my twenties living in Stockholm, Sweden. I started Foodie on Vacay because I travel quite a bit, and my trips are always centered around having great food experiences.
