Reasons to stay at Grand Hotel Oriente in Naples, Italy

Looking for hotel stays for your next trip to southern Italy? Well, today I’m sharing my top reasons to stay at Grand Hotel Oriente in Naples, Italy. It’s perfect if you’re planning to visit the Amalfi Coast and if you’re looking to make a pit stop in Naples. Naples is the third largest city in Italy and a convenient starting point for further travelling within the country. Check to my post below to find my top reasons to stay at Grand Hotel Oriente in Naples.

The Rooms

The rooms at Grand Hotel Oriente are spacious and decorated in a classic yet elegant and simple style that is easy to appreciate which is a great reason to stay here. They are also air-conditioned which is true blessing in the Neapolitan summer heat. There’s also free, fast wi-fi for you to enjoy. The bed was comfortable and I was completely in love with the generous size of it.

The rooms were thoroughly cleaned every day in accordance with Covid-19 protocol, and they always looked very neat when we came back from our city outings.

Location

This hotel is conveniently located only two minutes from Toledo subway station, which is right in the Naples shopping district. You’re living right next to a little market at Piazza de Plebiscito selling classic Neapolitan trinkets, and next to it you’ll find the major shopping street with establishment such as H&M, Zara and the historic Galleria Umberto I. To the right side of the shopping street, you’ll find the well-known, historic Spanish Quartiers.

You’re only about a kilometre from the port of Naples, meaning that the ferries to neighbouring destinations like Amalfi, Sorrento, Ischia, Capri and Procida are easily accessible as well. During our time in Naples, we took a day trip to Procida, which you can read more about HERE. After our time in Naples, we proceeded to stay in Sorrento, and from there we went to Capri, Amalfi and Positano.

Dining

My main reasons for choosing this hotel was the convenient location and their rooftop terrace. The terrace really stood out to me, and I was keen to enjoy my cappuccino’s while overlooking the city and feeling the warm sun against my skin. I also appreciate the idea of the rooftop bar just being a few steps from the bed so you can easily withdraw when it’s time to call it a night.

The top floor area is where you’ll have your breakfast, and the bar is open during the evenings. Supposedly, the top floor dining area doubles as a dining restaurant as well, but it wasn’t operating during our stay.

Our breakfast was the best during our whole trip. Due to Covid-19, there was not breakfast buffet concept. Instead, you could order from an unlimited a la carte breakfast menu. Considering the circumstances, the selection of dishes was considerably wide, and they were of good quality too. I highly appreciated the concept of not having to walk to and from a buffet table as well, especially during Covid times.

Service

The staff is very helpful and courteous, both at the breakfast, the reception and the rooftop bar. I highly recommend asking for help at the reception with ferry timetables and other transportations matters. Getting around in a foreign city usually isn’t that easy. The staff speaks good English and will be more than happy to help you make the best of your trip.

Overall experience

This hotel is as peaceful as it gets in a busy, hectic and hot city which is another great reason to pick Grand Hotel Oriente. Each time you enter after a busy day, it will feel like home. This is a four star hotel, and actually considered as one of the luxury hotels in Naples. However, Naples is quite an affordable city which also brings hotel prices down.

I believe our experience was quite impacted by Covid-19 as we arrived only a few days after the hotel had reopened after being closed for months. There was only a few guests (two or three groups at breakfast) there except for us. Although it felt a bit strange how peaceful and empty the hotel was, we had a lovely and very much appreciated experience.

Book your stay

I highly recommend booking directly with the hotel through their website. They offer the best rates and cancellation policies. You don’t want to have a third party involved in the event of a cancellation, so booking directly with the hotel is especially important given the current situation.

I can highly recommend staying at Grand Hotel Oriente in Naples if you’re planning a visit, and I’m more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about it. Happy travels!
