It takes a good idea and some serious marketing skills to successfully establish a new brunch place in the middle of a pandemic. This is especially true in Stockholm, which is already filled with insta-worthy brunch venues competing for visitors who are currently reluctant to leave their homes.
TwoFatLadies have opened up a restaurant serving all the hearty and sweet classics that we know and love. There are, however a few twists that are new to the Stockholm brunch scene. According to the website, their vision is to transform the concept of brunch into a space of creativity. The owners got inspired by the Aussie brunch scene while living in Melbourne and are now bringing it to us.
As you can see, the food looks absolutely beautiful. You’ll find everything from savoury varieties of the classic English Breakfast, to eggs and sweet pancakes here. There are also avocados, açai bowls and smoothies for the health conscious ones. Everything is thoughtfully presented and made to be shared on social media.
Although the dishes are classic, there are a few combinations that stand out to me, especially for being in Sweden. I bet you won’t find many places in Stockholm serving English Breakfast with Yorkshire pudding, or a Honeycomb latte (pictured below). I can highly recommend checking out the full menu here.
Although it was hard to decide between all the options, we opted for pancakes during our visit. Their Mickey-Mouse shaped pancakes looked and seemed incredible. The bacon that came along with the Princess Pancakes was caramelized and had a savoury but also sweet taste, and my Prince Pancakes were great as well. I did, however miss the thickness and softness that American Pancakes usually bring. These pancakes were cute, but was more of a mix between waffles and pancakes.
They have borrowed the concept of Mickey Mouse shaped waffles from Disney World, but Disney makes them thicker and softer. Even though these pancakes tasted great, I would prefer them to be thicker. However, that would also make them heavier, which might not be as appreciated in Stockholm as it is in America.
The drinks were beautifully presented, although the honeycomb latte was served in a beautiful cup on Instagram, but I got it in a regular glass. The Cookies & Cream milkshake was heavy, kind of like having a liquid cake. I did, however like it a lot although it could have been a bit thinner consistency-wise.
I found the restaurant larger than expected, but the decor was a bit too edgy and raw for my taste. The service was okay, but they forgot about my honeycomb latte. Once reminded, they made the latte immediately. The place was about half-full which was nice, and we could freely choose were to sit.
I got an overall good impression of this place and would happily return to try out more of their dishes. Although I’ve pointed out a few small negative things, please keep in mind that it is rare for me to find the perfect brunch place.
TFL can make a few improvements, but I love what they have put on the menu and how the food is presented. They put in a lot of effort. I found the prices reasonable for being in Stockholm, and they offer a bit of variation in a market that is saturated with instagrammable brunches. I also appreciate that the experience felt genuine, unpretentious, and that we could seat ourselves right away.
