One thing that I love to do when I’m exploring new cities is to dive into the dining scene. I can research cafe’s, restaurants and bars for hours and have found the most extraordinary places doing so. One of those places is Three Dots and a Dash in Chicago, which I stumbled upon when randomly searching for Chicago bars and restaurants on Google Maps.
Three Dots and a Dash describes itself as a Speakeasy Tiki Bar in the River North area of Chicago. River North is one of the most central, modern and safest areas of Chicago. The bar is, however slightly hard to find as it is in a rather hidden back alley in one of the city’s most central areas. Once you’re in, there are a few rooms and bars that you can choose from, and they all have the power to make you think that you’re in Hawaii or French Polynesia in no time.
We had made reservations about two weeks ahead but it probably wouldn’t have been necessary. There was plenty of space and no wait. The personnel took great care of us throughout the visit, and we spend a good three hours there trying out drinks and a giant appetizer to share.
They put tremendeous effort into their cocktails and also have incredible group drinks. These look cooler than most cocktails you’ve seen before, and the food isn’t bad either. The place isn’t too loud which makes it perfect for catching up with a group of friends or a fun date. The menu can be found here. I truly do recommend you to check out their Instagram as well just for the sake of seeing the the group cocktails. I can definitely promise that you’ll be impressed.
The pricing of this bar is on par with most upscale bars in western countries, but here you’ll get better quality as well as a more entertaining experience than you normally would for that price. If you want to bring the Tiki way of life home, there are souvenirs available for purchase.
I can promise that you’ll have a good time here. This bar was better than all of the other bars I’ve visited in Chicago. The vibe, theme and attention to detail had me very impressed, and I would not hesitate to say that this is one of the best bars I’ve been to. I definitely recommend everyone who visits Chicago to spend an evening here, you will not regret it.
What are your favourite bars around the world? I would love to get some good inspiration!
