Recently, I was invited to a birthday dinner at a newer restaurant in Stockholm, The Dining Room. The venue is located inside one of the city’s newer luxury hotels, At Six. It is beautifully designed with an open kitchen and dark wood interior. It’s elegant with a twist, and the dining experience exceeded all our expectations. Read on to learn more.
Mushroom variation – Truffle, marcona almonds and parmesan.
The starter was simple but magical. It was essentially a mix of mushrooms, cheese, truffle, red onions and almonds. I loved every part of it except for the red onions, which were in the center and sort of ruined it a little bit for me. If I had known that there would be red onions, I would have asked them not to include these. Everyone around the table (who had ordered this) were really happy about the dish and I can only agree. Overall, it was great, and I can see myself ordering it again.
Ovenbaked arctic char –Cauliflower, char roe, smoked butter sauce and crispy chicken skin.
I have my reservations when it comes to ordering fish at restaurants. Usually, there are so many other great options, so I always end up with something else. Except for this time, which I do not regret at all. This was the most buttery, creamy and tasty fish dish that I’ve had in a long time. It’s the best seafood I’ve had at a restaurant in years. It filled me up really fast and I could barely finish all of it, but I finished it, and it was great.
Roasted ice cream – Blood Orange curd, salt roasted macadamia nuts, coffee meringue
This was one of the most unique dessert experiences I’ve had in a long time. The ingredients came together really well, although I was a bit skeptical towards the coffee meringue at first. Roasted ice cream was definitely a hit, and tasted more like a luxurious version of churros with ice cream. It was beautifully presented, and even though I was really full, I still wish there would have been more of it.
As you can tell from the food presentation, this restaurant cares a lot about their Instagram value. The dishes look stunning, and they taste fantastic as well. The personnel took great care of us, they answered any questions that we had, took photos for us, helped us with paying separately and happily fulfilled every request. It also seemed that they had a genuine interest in making sure that we had a good time.
The venue itself is stunning. The interior of At Six is very cool and unusual for being in Stockholm. I also loved how open and large the restaurant space was. The prices at this restaurant are, however slightly higher than the average in the city, but the experience was a lot better than most. The dishes and combinations of ingredients are not something you come by at everywhere, and the experience was great on every level. I was very happy with my visit, and I have plans to come back for their Tipsy Afternoon Tea in the near future.
